Selling your classic European car in the United States

Do you own a car that's 25 years old or more, a model that was never sold in the U.S.? There are American collectors looking for it. With USAutozilla, our sister brand, you can advertise your car to buyers in the United States or sell it on consignment.

Why sell your classic car in the USA?

For an American collector, a Peugeot 205 GTI or a Renault 5 GT Turbo is a rarity: these models were never sold new in the USA, and there are very few examples in the country. It is this interest that we seek to leverage to obtain the best possible price for your car, in a market much larger than the Portuguese one.

Why 25 years?

In the US, a car not manufactured according to American standards can only be imported if it is at least 25 years old, counting from the month of manufacture. In 2026, this includes cars manufactured up to 2001, based on the month of manufacture. Below that age, importation is virtually impossible.

Models that were never sold in the US.

The most sought-after models are those that were never sold in the US, or European versions that never arrived there. Some examples:

  • Sports cars and GTIs. Peugeot 205 GTI, Renault 5 GT Turbo, Renault Clio Williams, Lancia Delta HF Integrale, Ford Escort RS Cosworth, Alpine A310 and GTA.
  • Popular classics. Citroën 2CV, Citroën Méhari, Renault 4L, Fiat Panda 4×4, Mini Cooper from the 90s.
  • 4x4s and utility vehicles. UMM Alter, Land Rover Defender Tdi, Mercedes G-Class diesel, Volkswagen T3 Syncro.
  • European versions. BMW 3 Series E30 Touring, Mercedes W124 diesel with manual transmission, Volvo 850 R with manual transmission, BMW M3 E36 3.2.

Is your model not on the list? Send it anyway: many European versions (diesel, manual transmission, station wagon, more powerful engines) never existed over there.

How it works

  • Send the data and photographs. Fill out the form below, and it will take you just a few minutes.
  • Proposal within 72 hours. We will respond in writing within 72 business hours with the proposed sale price, terms and conditions.
  • Inspection and photographs. The vehicle is inspected in the country where it is located and photographed in detail: this is what an American buyer requires to purchase remotely.
  • Listing on USAutozilla. The car is advertised to American buyers, with the price including delivery to a US port.
  • Sales and export. When a buyer closes a deal, we handle the export, shipping, and documentation, and the seller receives the agreed-upon amount.

Two ways to sell

  • Listing in the USA. The car stays with you until it's sold; we handle the advertising, contacting buyers, and exporting it.
  • Consignment. The car will be in our care until it's sold, and we'll take care of everything.

In our proposal, we indicate which of the two makes more sense for your car.

What is needed?

Documents in order and in the seller's name, with no liens or encumbrances, and the keys. Any maintenance and restoration history helps to increase the car's value. We inspect cars in any condition: the price and the decision to advertise depend on the condition.

Send your car

The more photographs you provide (exterior, interior, engine, chassis, documents), the faster and more accurate the offer will be.

Frequently asked questions

What types of cars are accepted?

Cars that are at least 25 years old, preferably models or versions that were never sold in the US. That's what interests American collectors.

My model was sold in the US. Is it worth ordering from them?

Yes. Many European versions, such as diesels, station wagons, manual transmissions, or more powerful engines, never existed in the US. Each case is analyzed individually.

My car is less than 25 years old. What can I do?

A car less than 25 years old cannot be imported into the USA. The age is counted from the month of manufacture: contact us when the car turns 25 years old.

How much does it cost?

Analyzing your request costs nothing. The terms of sale are presented in writing in the proposal, before any commitment is made.

Does the car have to be in Portugal?

No. We accept cars from any European country; the inspection is carried out in the country where the car is located.

Who is USAutozilla?

It is the sister brand of Autozilla, selling classic European cars to buyers in the United States through a licensed US dealer.
